Integrating Modern Physics in Pre-Tertiary Science Education

Summary

Investigating ways of making the essence of the theories of relativity and quantum mechanics appreciable to pre-tertiary students, and the subsequent development of related teaching methods/tools which might be applicable in a general classroom environment.

Why my research is important

Despite representing our best explanation of the universe and its contents, the theories of Relativity and Quantum Mechanics are not adequately incorporated into Australian pre-tertiary science curricula, and as a result, students are not presented with a structured opportunity to learn these theories unless they decide to study physics at university. One reason for this is a lack of appropriate teaching methods, which my research aims to address.
