Medical Physics University Network

The Medical Physics University Network is a national collaboration between the six Australian universities that offer postgraduate programs in medical physics. The network provides a flexible, consistent and efficient framework, and a related set of initiatives, for supporting the development and capacity of the medical physics community. The group has developed this e-information network, through which each university openly shares resources related to its areas of expertise. In addition to sharing local resources, we have compiled useful links to external resources.

Associations, Communities and Organisations


Australasian College of Physical Scientists & Engineers in Medicine - ACPSEM is the professional body for medical physicists, physical scientists in medicine, biomedical engineers. ACPSEM promotes further development of the field, education and CPD, professional standards.

Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation - ANSTO is the government organisation that houses Australia's expertise in nuclear science, and is responsible for delivering advice, research, services and products.

Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency - ARPANSA is the Australian Government agency responsible for radiation protection and nuclear safety. ARPANSA regulates users of radiation users, undertakes research, provides services, and promotes national uniformity and best practice across jurisdictions.

The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists - RANZCR drives the appropriate use of radiological and radiation oncological services to optimise health outcomes, through its service to and leadership in the profession.  


The American Association of Physicists in Medicine - American professional body to advance the science, education and professional practice of medical physics

The Asia-Oceania Federation of Organizations for Medical Physics - Promotes medical physics profession in the Asia-Oceania region

European Federation of Organisations for Medical Physics - Umbrella organisation for national professional bodies in Europe

International Atomic Energy Agency - "the world's center of cooperation in the nuclear field," promoting the safe use of nuclear science and technology in society and its development

ARPANSA information relevant to medical physics

Diagnostic Reference Levels - The Australian National Diagnostic Reference Level Service enables individual imaging facilities to compare their doses with a national benchmark.

Calibration services - ARPANSA provides calibration services and information about the Australian primary standards.

Australian Clinical Dosimetry Service - provides radiotherapists with a source of independent checks for equipment and patient doses, and includes detailed information regarding preparation for an audit.
