BioAcoustics research group

Core membership

The group's initial research focus was on cetacean echolocation. Subsequently aspects of musical acoustics were included.

Pure basic research

  • Sound propagation in estuarine and marine environment
  • Sonic extinction at gently sloping beaches

Applied research

  • Bioacoustical aspects of cetacean echolocation
  • Physical acoustics of brass musical instruments

Experimental development

  • Optimised signals for shoreline detection using sonar
  • Spectral analysis using prime factor FFT
