Previous Seminars in 2008

3:30pm, Tuesday 19 August 2008

VENUE: Physics Lecture Room 2.15

TITLE: "Chiral vibrational spectroscopy (vibrational circular dichroism and Raman optical activity) and applications to molecular biophysics"

SPEAKER: Assoc. Professor Karl James Jalkanen (Technical University of Denmark and Curtin University)

ABSTRACT:

An overview of the chiral vibrational spectroscopies, vibrational circular dichroism and Raman optical acvitiy, will be presented. In addition, the applications of these two spectroscopies, along with their parents infrared/vibrational absorption and Raman scattering, in the fields of molecular biophysics, pharmacy and biophysical chemistry will be presented. The question of how to treat the complex and varied environments in biological systems will also be discussed.
