Reqirements at Level 2 for a Physics Major

All students wishing to major in Physics are required to complete the Level 2 physics units:

PHYS2201     Quantum Physics (S1)
PHYS2202     The Physics of Particles (S2)
PHYS2220     Atoms, Nuclei, Particles and Galaxies (S2)

In addition, you must also complete the three mathematics units:

MATH2200     Applied Mathematics (S1)
MATH2209     Calculus and Probability (S1)
MATH2020     Multivariate Calculus and Linear Algebra (S2)

For the remaining twelve points:

•    BSc students should choose science units. If you would like to include more physics in your programme than the minimum requirement, you can take the first semester unit PHYS2212 The Physics of Macroscopic systems.

•    Combined degree students (BSc/BE, BSc/BCom, BSc/BA, BSc/BEd etc) should consult course advisors from the other faculty regarding the remaining 12 points.

If you do not intend to major in Physics

You are still able to take one or more of the four units at Level 2 if you meet the prerequisites. Please consult with the second year coordinator.
