Magnetic Nanoparticles for Biomedical Applications

Summary

Recently there has been significant interest in magnetic nanoparticles, particularly related to the field of biomedicine. Of particular interest are the potential applications of targeted drug delivery, MRI contrast enhancement, cell labelling and separation, retinal detachment therapy and hyperthermia treatments. My project is concerned with the detailed characterisation of these magnetic nanoparticles to gather information on their structural and magnetic properties. This will lead to a more thorough understanding of these prototype nanoparticles, thus allowing for their improved design and development.

Why my research is important

his research will further our understanding of how magnetic nanoparticles can be used to enhance the diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities of medical practitioners.
